bullet  General Notes:

The following was posted on RootsWeb:

I have evidence that the John Cuthbertson you listed was born in Tyrone Co., Scotland, not Ireland. His father was the first ordained minister, a Covenenter, who was sent to the new world by the Scottish Presbytery. His three sons, wife, and several of his seven daughters were all born in Scotland. He is buried at Middle Octararo, seven miles west of Gettysburg, PA. This has been documented in a book published in the 1930s. Anne
Since posting this item in July 2004, I have found the current minister of the Middle Octoraro Presbyterian Church, USA in PA who has sent me several pages copied from Rev. C's journal which states he was a Scotsman, born in Ireland on April 3, 1718 there. He was the first ordained minister sent to the new word by the Scottish Presbytery (Covenanters). After 46 days at sea sailing from Derry, Loch (Scottish for "lake") he arrived at New Castle, DE on Aug. 5, 1751. He married Miss Sally Moore, d/o Walter Moore of 15 miles outside Philadelphia on Feb. 25, 1756. John, who became a physician was thyeir first son (not their first child) was born on Mar. 21, 1764 and baptised on Feb. 28, 1765 in Lancaster Co., PA. They had a seconbd son, Walter, born June 12, 1769, baptized on July 9, 1769 by Rev. C at Middle Octoraro Society, Lancaster Co., PA, and died Nov. 7, 1789, buried on Nov. 12, 1789. All this recorded by Rev. C and entered into the PA Church Records for Adams, Berks, and Lancaster Co., PA, which were taken from the reverend's own journal. I believe this to be the true records. I know that he had at least one daughter, but no name was given. He also had a sister who came to America with him named Mrs. Archibald Bourne, along with her husband and their son, John. They resided near Gettysburg, PA. Anne
