1. Made money selling moonshine then bought an island off the coast of VA. He told family members that he buried a lot of money on that island but when he went back years later he couldn't find the island, apparantly it was below the ocean's surface. I think he either literally buried the money or he meant he put a lot of money into the purchase of the island. It is supposed to be off the coast of Richmond (I believe). The deed to this island was left to my mother but she never recieved the deed and we never pursued information regarding the island or the deed.
Calvin married Rosa A. Bennett, daughter of James Bennett and Lizzie Wise. (Rosa A. Bennett was born on 24 Jul 1888 in Mitchell Co., Buladean, NC, died on 7 May 1936 in Mitchell Co., Buladean, NC and was buried in Bennett Cemetary, Buladean, NC.)
Calvin also married Grace F. Francis, daughter of Reverend George Washington Francis and Bertha or Berthia Troutman, on an unknown date. (Grace F. Francis was born on 16 Jul 1917, died on 10 Aug 1995 and was buried in Garland-Parker Cemetery, Buladean, Mitchell Co., NC 4.)
